Your Son Is Getting Married WHEN???

Oh well, it's only a number!

I'm pretty excited! My son, Paul, is getting married in just over a week, and that will be here before I know it!!! I adore his fiance, Jen. She's a gal after my own heart ... ducks all in a row, the model of efficiency complete with a bit of an over-the-top love of organization and lists. And you all know how I love organization and lists!

The only thing I can't quite figure out is how she and Paul picked the date. I mean Friday is getting to be a more popular day to get hitched, as the competition for the coolest venues becomes more and more fierce. In order to avoid a waiting list of a couple of years or so at the Jewel Box, they gave the thumbs up to a Friday evening wedding.

But here's the rub ... I know it's only a number, but that number is thirteen . . .

As in Friday the 13th.  Yes folks, I know it's hard to believe, but Friday - May13th is the day of the wedding.  The day my only child marries a young woman my husband and I are just crazy about. You heard me right - defying convention, and possibly all common sense, they signed up to tie the knot on what is considered the unluckiest day of the year!!!

That being said, gaining your sympathy isn't why I'm writing this post!

I can admit, that although I don't truly believe Friday the 13th is a scourge upon us, it makes me a little nervous. I sort of think of it as the one day of the year Murphy's Law is in full force . . . "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"!

As Mother of the Groom, we all know I'm suppose to look fantastic. And we also know that I'm in direct competition with the Mother of the Bride ... a distict disadvantage for me due to the fact that the bride is way more important than the groom! Therefore, the M-of-the-B is in an elevated position right from the get-go.

PLEASE TAKE THIS POLL!

So let's get down to it, people! I'm going to post a photo of what the M-of-the-B is wearing and another of what I've chosen, and you won't know which is which. They are completely different - like day and night, hot and cold, boys and girls.  I'm convinced that the direction I decided to go is the one that's right for me, my own personal style . . . . . . .  well, almost convinced!

Please take a sec and vote for the outfit you think is right for me. You'll have to look past the young, tall skinny models and think of a not so young, 5'4" semi-slender woman. But I know you can do it!

And what if the vote doesn't go my way? Well, I've still got a week to re-evalute and SHOP!

Which Style for Jill?

~ Style A ~

~ Style B ~

Thank you! I'll let you know the results very soon :D

B is very classy and very elegant and I can definitely see you wearing it. I'm not going to comment on A, just in case. ; )

Oh and congratulations on the wedding! Something is supposed to go wrong with a wedding--on the 13th or not. ; ) And at that point, all you can do is ride with it and have fun!! Though I'm sure it will be really beautiful and you will have such a wonderful time.

Congrats on the wedding....I do not follow the 13th thing but I will keep my fingers crossed for you... I am picking #2 because the Mother of the Bride should not show up the Bride...both are gorgeous outfits though.

Congrats! What a cute couple! :)
Jen is such a beautiful and classic girl that I went for the A-option. Good luck with the wedding! :)

Friday the 13th is also a special day because of it's rarity :-)

I love the second dress for a Mother of the Groom. And judging by the way you speak (elegantly) I think that is a fit for you. The first one looks like a Prom dress to me!

Oh, and your son is SO handsome. His wife-to-be is a beauty! Nice couple!

I like B, classy & elegant, not over the top. A is also nice, more formal.....

Good luck. And a date is just a date. Congrats on a great dtr-i-l to be!

Style A is so glamourous and formal that you'll upstage the bride.

If something goes wrong on the 13th, it will become a milestone in the family history. "Remember when..."

I have voted A, because here, where I live, Spain for a wedding in the evening is supposed you HAVE to dress long dresses and at afternoon the shorts one, evening with high hair "bun" (traductor use for this) and afternoon long hair with flowers or hats. It´s like royal weddings, but for all weddings, don´t mind social possition of people.
So I don´t think if this matches your style, when I have a weddings, first of all see the hour, and then I buy.
And about 13th Friday, I have to say that in Spain is the 13th Tuesdays for the bad lucky wedding days, so you don´t have to worried about it.
Hope you have a great day.

I voted B.
B is appropriate for a mother-of position in the wedding. I think that A looks a tad more like a bridesmaid dress to me

Best of luck and enjoy the special day! I do like both dresses. I just think that choice two is more sophisticated for a mom. I agree with Gitterbird and the first dress, although lovely, looks a little like a prom dress. You'll be gorgeous (with gorgeous jewelry) no matter what you pick. Your obvious love will make you shine!

First thing I want to say congratulations for your son's wedding :) He is handsome man!

I vote for B to wear in the church service and A for the banquet.
That's what I do when I attend weddings.
I am sure you are going to be beautiful mother-of groom that day even if it's in Fri 13th :)

I don't believe in that day is bad at all. So go ahead and celebrate this wonderful day with your family!
God bless their marriage and give them so many happy years together.

I think B is best for a mother of the bride, but that A dress is beautiful too!
Friday 13th...that is too funny. I agree w/Kelly, at least something is supposed to go wring anyway! But it's a wedding after all. It'll be beautiful!

Congrats jQ! SO exciting!
Personally B is the way to go, it is about the bride and groom like you said.... and to me A seems too over the top, and like a competition to draw too much attention. They are of course both very pretty but B would be my idea of looking great without trying to steal any spotlight. IMHO

I chose B, I like it a lot. Though both are classic styles.

I also need to mention something about the Friday the 13th. I'll have you know that my son was born on Friday the 13th. Not only that, but he was the 13th baby born in the hospital that day and he is the 13th grandchild on my side of the family. So, the way I see it, 13 is DANG lucky! It will be a fabulous day for your family!

I vote for A, the long and elegant dress, although both are lovely...

You'll look great in either dress!

I'm sure it will go really well! Organization is the most vital part of event planning, and maybe they picked that date partly to take the fear out of it.

I love the picture of Paul and Jen by the tree too!

Congrats to you and your son! It is a strange date to get married on though. I really like the beaded sweater on B! :)

What an adorable couple! Congrats on your growing family. I have a great relationship with my mother in law. She is an awesome woman. Stereotypes about mother in law/daughter in law relationships don't HAVE to be true for everyone!

I really, really like Style A. Very classy!
